God’s timing

It’s not about the amount of time that you serve the Lord, it’s about the quality of the time and when God calls you.
If you do it your own way and timing, it won’t work, but if you do it in God’s way and on His timing, it’ll work. – Angus Buchan

How FAITH works

I had been stranded in the book of Hebrews last week, particularly in a topic about faith. Then it’s a perfect timing how I coincidentally checked on one of Joyce Meyer’s preaching about “How faith works”

I found the ‘topic’ so practical and so I’d love to share it to you, just in case you prefer to read than watch and listen for long hours and just wanted to get the main points instead.

Here it is…

  1. Life point: If you ever want to see your faith work; you’re going to have to totally give up self pity. Anything not done by faith is a sin. Worry is a sin. Doubting is a sin.

Philippians 4:6-7 says, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

  1. Patience is how we act or behave while we wait.

You can wait with expectation. You can wait with a good conversation. You can wait and spend your time being a blessing to somebody else. That’s a cool thing to do. But if you’re like “I can’t do this anymore…I’m just going to quit…what took it so long? I’m going to give up…this is not working…” then you can start all over again.

Hebrews 6:15 says, “And so after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised.”

Abraham waited 20 years…Joseph was imprisoned for 13 years or something when he didn’t do wrong. It’s fun when you’re having a dream. Joseph had a dream. He got all excited. He shut his mouth off to his brothers, got into a little pride saying “he he…You’re going to bow down to me.”

Do you need a trip somewhere on the backside and nowhere? Does somebody right now in the wilderness of your life and riding on or not and working some junk in you that needs to come out before you’ll going to be ready to have what God has promise you?

  1. You need to learn to enjoy where you’re at on the way where you’re going.
  1. Faith only works and is energize by love. What kind of a love walk do you have? How much do you study love? How well do you know the Scripture on love? How do you treat people? How many people are you mad at?

Galatians 5:6 says, “For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.”

Paul was a little fed up with the Galatians who were always talking about circumcision, not circumcised, I’m better than you because  I’m circumcised, you need to be circumcised…

a. Paul said, “Quit being so neat picky about the rules and regulations of religion and just get busy loving each other.”

It’s ridiculous the way different denominations fight, neat pick and shut each other out because we all don’t believe exactly the same way. So who’s right? None of us is 100 % right. Not me, not you, not anybody else. We’re all doing the best we can for where we’re at.

 b. The fruit of our lives is more important than anything else. Paul said “just get busy loving each other because faith only works and is energize by love.”

  1. Faith is always at rest.

Mark 11:22-25 says, “Have faith in God,” Jesus answered. “I tell you the truth, if anyone say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believed that you have received it, and it will be yours. And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.”

Hebrews 4:3 says, “Now we who have believed enter that rest, just as God has said, ‘So I declared on oath in my anger, ‘They shall never enter my rest.’ And yet His work has been finished since the creation of the world.”

  1. Faith needs to be released. It’s a force that’s in your spirit. There was a time in my life when I was only released in my faith for the forgiveness of my sins and to go to heaven someday when I die. I wasn’t releasing my faith in any other areas. I’m not releasing my faith to overcome or to be healed from my abusive past. I wasn’t releasing my faith to do anything for God or to be use by God. I wasn’t releasing my faith for finances. We just barely got by all the time.
  1. Faith always brings results.

Luke 7:50 says, “Jesus said to the woman, ‘Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”

Luke 17:19 says, “Then He said to him, ‘Rise and go; your faith has made you well.”

If you need to take medicine or if you need to go to the doctor but don’t do anything without trusting God to bring healing in your life, I don’t believe there’s any medicine or any doctor that can help us if we don’t have our faith in God to make it work. Jesus is our healer. There’s no healing apart from God. Even the wisdom of medical profession has today, they got it from God and its good thing that He gave it to them or we’ll all be dead. I wouldn’t go to a doctor without praying which one to go to. Don’t take that medicine without praying to God to bless it and anoint it and make it work.

  1. Above all, trust God for healing because even when medicine or man can’t do it, God can still heal you. He’s still a miracle working God.
  1. Faith protects us from the fiery darts of the enemy.

Ephesians 6:16 says, “In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.”

10. We receive all of God’s blessings through faith. We’re made right, justified, sanctified, forgiven, redeemed by faith.

11.We do great things for God by faith.

READ: Hebrews 11: 7-31

 12. Faith grows and increases as you use it.

 13. We do things by faith and there’s always a reward.

 14. Faith has to fight.

1 Timothy 6:12 says, “Fight the good fight of faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.”

1 Peter 5:9 says, “Resist the devil, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings.”

Luke 10:19 says, “I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.”

You have power and authority over all the power the enemy possesses. The devil only has power, but you have power and authority. The only authority he has is what you give in.

 15. Faith is the only thing that conquers fear.

Fear is so prevalent in the world today. The bible says that in the last days, men’s heart will fail them for fear. Many Christians are so afraid of the conditions of the world today. I’m not afraid. If I’m going to be afraid for anything it would be if the people are lost so I want to keep on working as hard as I can, trying to get the good news to them while I can. And I want to be informed and I want to do my part and I’m not going to stick my head on the ground and act like there’s nothing bad going on but I refuse to be afraid of it. If God has chosen you and I to be alive in this day and hour then we’re up for it. We’ve got what it takes.

To God be the glory!

Just got my Smartphone back 4 days ago! It just couldn’t function to its new owner, so strange when it’s so well with me. God is an awesome God! He is unpredictable. His ways indeed are higher than our ways. Thank you Lord for disciplining me. You just wanted me to prioritize things and you wanted me to get rid of my idol: gadgets and gizmos and addiction to social networking and apps in my Smartphone and other stuffs that preoccupied me so much, hindering my precious time with you.

Thank you Lord for granting us the desires of our hearts.

I remembered the time three months ago when Jesus told me to sell my iphone, to get rid of this because this turned out to be my idol. I didn’t want to. But then I realized I need to simplify my complex life and one of that is to give up my properties. I had given my other phone to my cousin and I let my iphone be bought to the person He referred to with the price fix to His, no more, no less. I didn’t want to. Eventually, I learned to accept and obey.

You see, obedience is doing the things you don’t want to do. But because God told me, I did. And I was free and delivered from the spirit of materialism and idolatry. I realized it’s all worth it for the months were out in the mission without distractions. I only had with me my other phone (the simplest one) for my family to contact me. It was just so unbelievable I was able to survive it without loads on my phone, no internet, no facebooking, no TV for months throughout the mission field! God had helped me and He continues helping me.

I realized it’s ok to have these stuffs provided you must know when, how and what to use it for and that you would use it to glorify God and not your own selfish ways, not for luxurious, superfluous entertainment and vanity means.

I also remember the time on how God disciplined me. He is such a jealous God. This story went like this. I was burning CDs (supplemental audio and video files for evangelism) forgetting my habit of praying and devotion for the whole day, but guess what? I was not able to burn even a single file! When I ask Jesus why I failed on that task, He simply answered, “Did I ask you to do that? You only wanted to do it. I did not ask you.” After which, my memory card in my other phone was corrupted including all the songs with Christian lyrics, my USB and computer was infected by a virus and all the files was erased but I wondered why the pictures were hidden. My computer malfunctioned. I cried out to God questioning Him, “Lord, is this your way of disciplining me? What’s left is my simple phone and the rest went ashtray.”

I knew He wanted me to acknowledge Him and put Him first in my list of priorities. I knew it when I saw a vision in my dream. In that dream what’s left was the bed and the rest of my properties were washed out and thrown by big waves of the sea and the storm ate them up. The bed represents REST. We could only find rest in God’s presence. And it’s true since the only file left in my other USB is the audio Bible verses from Genesis to Revelation and all the files (songs, pictures, videos, articles) were infected and erased.

When I possessed my stuffs (my gadgets and gizmos) I did not realize that they slowly were taking lordship over me. I was being controlled by them instead of me controlling them. How pathetic it was!

So I prostrated and cried out asking Jesus to forgive me. I found out that He got jealous. He is such a jealous God. He wanted you, your time and you alone.

After you’ll learn from your mistakes, God will grant you reward more than you expect. You just have to be patient and lean on Him. So, I received blessing from the Lord. My computer was reformatted, fixed and upgraded for an amount of almost free! Imagine 200 pesos? Yes, that’s an amount I paid for the person God sent. I got new guitar and trolley backpack bag intended for God’s work and finally I got new gadget: music beat box that could play songs all day long. Then who among you could say I became worse or got back to my old self materialistic idolater to gadgets and other stuffs? If you think I am, you’re wrong. See God is training us. He continues working in us. If we passed the first level of His test, then welcome to the next level until we grow up and mature.

“God will never leave you empty. He will replace everything you lost. If He asks you to put something down, it’s because He wants you to pick up something greater.”

And we also have to learn trusting in Him, in all our ways we have to acknowledge Him. If He will ask you to do something, don’t ask “why?”, simply obey. That’s trust. If you don’t understand, remember: His ways are really higher than our ways. God is able and in control of everything we do.

To God be the glory!

(Upon failure to steal any picture of my former coach to post here is this man who looks older than him. I hope he won’t kill me for this <chuckle>)

Half rotten eggs roll by and splash. They chase me. So cuddly. The puppies were all over spreading their cutest smile. It’s as if I’ll be playing Lizzie McGuirre. I doubt but promise not to write at my hectic schedule but my pen just pulled me up, said, “Come on in, start blowing me up!” to scream at everybody’s mad-full thought connected beyond differences and genuinely. Enough of melancholy. There’s enough closet to cater that.

Once, I’ve enter I allow myself quaff all possible perplexities, rendezvous of whether bliss and nightmare and of course, fun and excitement. We youth had that spirit—being ecstatic: to try something new and extraordinary. But said usually by mommies, “Okay…but I just don’t want to see you cry when you get nothing good at it.” Yeah! To try and be ready to win and win. If fail, who said unfair.

I’ve learned to love myself more at the eruption of million’s affection. I’ve learned to care more once touched by their sincere tap—silent yet real and felt. I’ve learn to trust myself as the crowds cheered—unaired amaze though influenced. I’ve learned to fight back as a call of duty. Having sides at least on the good is where I rest my feet defending undefeated and supposed triumph. We are not the tail but the head. All are leaders. A follower is an obvious instance. We have to deny nothing from our own existence but our cowardice from anything desirable of competing for. Grow up, stretch to reach on top. Develop, and then share. That would be the greatest achievement from your endeavour.

Learning across splattered inks or matrix of odds and evens takes time, energy, fear and anxiety. Well of course, the idea doesn’t focus on it constantly…all learning were. A pal said that the easiest way to learn is to let yourself surround with people smarter than you are. Why not? If you’re the most privileged thinker even a bogus pretender and the rest were mediocre at that fleeting, how could you learn or at least snatch something new? Same with certain chess guru that to be a grandmaster you’ll have to spend time, sweat, enough nerves, patience, focus, perseverance, commitment and other personal character will do the rest which will lead you to either glory or defeat. True to it that at first, he scared me maybe because his style of training is where I didn’t used to—to where I thought drags my courage and confidence worse. The course of everyday practice turns into usual almost and always bad. I could remember those defeated exercises that brought me home silent, exhausted and frustrated. So, I decided to glue myself at home and promised not to get back unless have my own tactics. And, that was the beginning of his smiles. I even no longer heard his usual “Unsa ka man oi!” every time I do the wrong moves of carelessness. To pay the price, I felt the gold medal I received from that tournament seemed heavier than the collective abstract sweat and headache I gained from the consecutive practice of losing. At last I rejoiced, “So, this is how it feels.”

Well, learning to correct my own presides after others did so. Learning from neither knowledge nor skills but the attitudes l haven’t notice all those past years adds my being. Hence, remind me of my own weaknesses that I have to deal with. Others are obvious and gutsy but more still to go waiting to be unravelled along with unexpected thorns and pebbles.

Plead not. We can’t assess our former foolishness if our will is ruled by our passion. We can’t learn from anything controlled by barriers of vice and lack of faith. However, privilege to choose, man’s fate can be drawn through his own idiosyncrasy. And somewhat, there’s so much thing we have to learn from our past experiences and to react is to laugh about them, celebrate each crazy unsatisfying decision making, enlighten the pessimistic feelings of distress that once was warm and glow. After all, being tired is not final and to rest doesn’t mean in stationary passive wander by extravagant spirits of lad and lass even at 60s. Truth is, I had just recovered out from one unfulfilled expectation. But I had learned my lesson. Not all desires munch at seconds or whatever wanted. Not always, not all at once and still not one at a time. It’s just that you have to appreciate the art of perfect timing and God alone knew when it will be better than men’s omniscience. Work hard while you pray.
