tornado vs faith

I dreamt of:
A. …myself attending a wedding. All the ladies who are visitors wore white gowns and the men wore tuxedos. I was tasked to call those who have roles in the wedding who were slothful sitting on the bench outside the church feeling shy. I encouraged them to be zealous and be prepared like an army. So, they fall in line to get ready for the wedding procession.

B … a tornado from dawn to morning today. In my dream, a tornado can be seen in the sky through our window. In amazement, I took my phone to capture the moment. My mom scolded me since it’s too dangerous to stay.
Then, our house started to move. Next thing, we went down through the stairs fearing the roof on the second floor might be removed due to the strong wind. However, seconds after, the things in the second floor started to throw themselves and we thought the wooden ceiling would gave up and fall over us below.
The neighborhood was already devastated, we’re the only house left. But we keep holding each other. Soon our house is being shaken as if the foundation is uprooted and the house moved feet away from its original site.
I, with other young people started to pray (apostolic-prophetic prayer). We commanded the wind to stay away and not harm us and it obeyed us. But later as it got stronger, we surrendered our lives to God, praying that if it’s time for us to die, we commit our spirit to the Lord. Nevertheless, we became spiritually stronger and prompted by the Holy Spirit to move away from the house since the monster wind is fast approaching us. We run to the open space. But my mom and other family member were still inside the house. I screamed on top of my voice, calling my mom to get out from the house. No answer. So, I returned to our half-ruined house. At the door, I saw my family with my mom holding a sack of clothes. She tried to secure clothes or other things before we fled for our lives. I felt disappointed to her saying, “Mom, our lives are more important than those things you packed up. Besides, how could you run with those heavy loads?”
Then I woke up.

Wisdom:

A.
Matthew 25:1-13Amplified Bible (AMP)

Parable of Ten Virgins
25 “Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins, who took their lamps and went to [a]meet the bridegroom. 2 Five of them were foolish [thoughtless, silly, and careless], and five were wise [far-sighted, practical, and sensible]. 3 For when the foolish took their lamps, they did not take any [extra] oil with them, 4 but the wise took flasks of oil along with their lamps. 5 Now while the bridegroom was delayed, they all began to nod off, and they fell asleep. 6 But at midnight there was a shout, ‘Look! The bridegroom [is coming]! Go out to meet him.’ 7 Then all those virgins got up and put their own lamps in order [trimmed the wicks and added oil and lit them]. 8 But the foolish virgins said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, because our lamps are going out.’ 9 But the wise replied, ‘No, otherwise there will not be enough for us and for you, too; go instead to the dealers and buy oil for yourselves.’ 10 But while they were going away to buy oil, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding feast; and the door was shut and locked. 11 Later the others also came, and said, ‘Lord, Lord, open [the door] for us.’ 12 But He replied, ‘I assure you and most solemnly say to you, I do not know you [we have no relationship].’ 13 Therefore, be on the alert [be prepared and ready], for you do not know the day nor the hour [when the Son of Man will come].

B.
Matthew 24:15-18 Amplified Bible (AMP)

Perilous Times
15 “So when you see the [a]ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION [the appalling sacrilege that astonishes and makes desolate], spoken of by the prophet Daniel, standing in the Holy Place (let the [b]reader understand), 16 then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains [for refuge]. 17 “Whoever is on the housetop must not go down to get the things that are in his house [because there will not be enough time]. 18 “Whoever is in the field must not turn back to get his clothes.

REACT: As I pondered upon my dream, I knew God is speaking to me through the dream. I knew I became so worried about some things (earthly things) these days like house, etc.

Psalms 127:1 says, “Unless the LORD builds the house, they labor in vain who build it; Unless the LORD guards the city, the watchman keeps awake in vain.”

In the end, there is one more certain and important, not our properties but our lives. I realized, yes, why do we worry so much about our food, clothes, shelter or other things? We worked so hard acquiring things which don’t have eternal value. When catastrophe strikes, we can’t carry all of them because we’ll be more concern for our refuge, our lives. And still, when havoc struck us, if we are the children of God, we’ll be left unharmed. He is our mighty defender. Our ever-strong arm.
…and Jesus is coming for a perfect bride who make herself ready!

To God be the glory!

The tree and the blessings

Cross_On_Hill_freecomputerdesktopwallpaper_1600

Dawn of October 8, 2015, I woke up from a dream.

I travelled back in time, in South Korea in the 50s. There was a Korean woman who’s having a daughter living in countryside. Two ladies came out running away from their house secretly. They seemed escaping. The Korean woman detained them believing they are two blessings. As I understood and see, the two ladies are angels of God.

Those young ladies were wearing head cover from the sun and that Korean woman also wore her own head cover.

Her front yard has tall and huge bamboo trees. It gave way to her as their master. Seven of them cut themselves, went down in humility and lay on the ground to be her bed. She lay down on that bamboo poles and automatically she was tied to them. Next, she was flown high as if the bamboo poles were balloon carrying her above the clouds. The sky is so wide and high. It could be frightening but she never minds it as long as she could take back her blessings. She said, “I commit to my destiny, to the Lord wherever I will be carried away by the wind and these bamboo poles to find them (two ladies/ blessings).”

She was now above the clouds, so high floating, or flying in the sky. I was frightened and worried for her, so I interceded. “I prayed she’ll land on the water, it’s safer than land.”

She indeed landed on the water but in the middle of the ocean. Good thing there was no waves but so calm and clear as crystal water received her. The bamboo poles untied her and set her free. She automatically swum in the sea and was filled with lights all over her body. She looked like a tiny fish swimming under water.

Suddenly large shark appeared and noticed her. It was attracted to her light. It was chasing her, wanted to eat her but she was so quick to swim and avoided. The shark transformed as giant black bear. It chased her with its claws, wanting to devour her. She was able to avoid it. Then another beast came, a giant chipmunk. She has two predators but she was able to avoid them.

I continued interceding for her. “I prayed that a seawall would appear so that she can be saved.” A seawall indeed appeared and she climbed up. She went back to her home and found that the whole neighborhood was looking for her, was so worried of her. A man yelled at her, “What kind of a mother are you, you just left your daughter behind! You deserve to be punished!” He grabbed a metal shovel and was about to hit her with that. The daughter was alarmed and stood in the middle and shouted to the man, “Don’t act like that, you don’t have the right to say that because you’re the one who’s unworthy…drunkard!” and that young lady became me.

Still in Korea. I was a member of musicians in the church. I was a trumpeter. When called by number, we aligned ourselves like in a military platoon and blew our trumpets. I’m the last in line.

POINTS TO PONDER:

  1. Tree symbolizes the cross of Jesus.   stock-footage-jesus-christ-church-crucified-crucify-religion-cross-crown-crucifix-lord-savior_bis
  2. When Jacob wrestled with God, he did not stop until he got his blessing from Him.
  3. Do Not Worry (Luke 12:22-34)

22 Then Jesus said to his disciples: “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. 23 For life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. 24 Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! 25 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life[j]? 26 Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?

27 “Consider how the wild flowers grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 28 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you—you of little faith! 29 And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. 30 For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. 31 But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.

32 “Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom. 33 Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will never fail, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. 34 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

  1. The Cost of Following Jesus (Luke 9:57- 62)

57 As they were walking along the road, a man said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.”

58 Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.”

59 He said to another man, “Follow me.”

But he replied, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.”

60 Jesus said to him, “Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God.”

61 Still another said, “I will follow you, Lord; but first let me go back and say goodbye to my family.”

62 Jesus replied, “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.”

  1. The Cost of Being a Disciple (Luke 14:25-33)

25 Large crowds were traveling with Jesus, and turning to them he said: 26 “If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple. 27 And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.

28 “Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it? 29 For if you lay the foundation and are not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule you, 30 saying, ‘This person began to build and wasn’t able to finish.’

31 “Or suppose a king is about to go to war against another king. Won’t he first sit down and consider whether he is able with ten thousand men to oppose the one coming against him with twenty thousand? 32 If he is not able, he will send a delegation while the other is still a long way off and will ask for terms of peace. 33 In the same way, those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples.

To God be the glory!

POPE must be read as Peace Obeys Purity Enduringly

September 26, 2015–While waiting upon the Lord from 8:00 – 8:37 in the morning, I saw a vision. This was a consistent one.

Pope-Francis-I

First, Pope Francis wrestled with a man wearing all black but he was defeated.

Second, Pope Francis was inside an evacuation/ relief operation center. However, he did not act and looked loving, generous, gentle or compassionate. His aura is opposite to the way he used to looked like and act in front of many people. In fact, he pushed the people out, throwing them away, unwilling to help them. He had that irritation in his face looking at them.

Third, at different location, I saw a temple. Out from the main door came a procession in a synchronized movement full of treasure boxes. Innumerable… and with the procession the only person I saw was the Pope Francis. I can’t understand or know what those materials I see because this was the first time I saw this kind of stuff but as how I describe it, it looks like or similar but not close to treasured chest in ancient times like in the Pirates of the Caribbean movie. It maybe is made up of wood or metal, I don’t know but it’s a solid rectangular treasure chest…uncountable.

. . .

. .

.

Last week, while I waited upon the Lord, I saw a vision of people protesting on the streets…then the pope appeared. The angry mob turned towards him and hit him…out of anger. They continually were hitting him with objects they carried.

I don’t have any idea why the Lord showed me this vision because I already committed to continue to fast or abstain from TV, etcetera. I don’t want to be updated with current events for the meantime but I suppose this vision about the pope and the forwarded message were already news. I had not realized I still have phones on . . . [sigh].

Suddenly I remembered while in bed asleep still last week, I saw a night vision. I saw a bold number 18.

I asked the Lord for wisdom what that number was for. It could be number of days or an exact date, I thought.

Finally, the wisdom came. I had started my 7 days isolation, praying and fasting on the 7th of September, 2015 so I started counting 18 from that day…and so the 18th day from the 7th of September is September 25, 2015! Wow, I thought 2+5=7, is God’s perfect number…maybe God prepared a blessing for me on that day or maybe He wanted me to do something, so I need to wait on Him on that day.

A COINCIDENCE?

Same is true. On the 24th of September, I was led by the Holy Spirit to hear an audio preaching, this was a conference held in Israel and the prophetic speaker talked about Israel and suddenly I was prompted by the Holy Spirit to pray for Israel and Muslim brothers all over the world. I don’t know what to pray or how to pray for them so I just prayed in the Spirit then groaned and groaned.

Hours after that, my aunt came and told me, “Today is Israel’s New Year’s day.” I was amazed. In my mind, I thought, “Aunt, you just came to tell me that?”

At the same time, a prophet friend of mine sent me a forwarded message which says:

Ptr Lindsay Williams, emergency notice 2 all CHRISTIANS, 2 b aware today. The White House of AMERICA slowly neglected the BIBLE…the POPE announced to have a new world, all Roman Catholic obeyed unconditionally to have mark 666, this will be implemented on September 25, 2015, see Revelation 13: 16-18. Christians be Watchful, be prayerful and be in CHRIST…*Pls spread* (forwarded msg)”

I also learned from our neighbor that September 25th, 2015 was a Muslim holiday.

THOUGHTS TO PONDER:

While I was a little alarmed upon this message, the Holy Spirit told me to read my Bible and it was opened in Deuteronomy 31:6 which says, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.”

But to the readers especially to those real Christians, we must not be comfortable enough with the world. What I mean is let us not settle with “it’s okay to fast but it’s also okay not to, it’s okay to pray for others but it’s also okay not to, I’ll just pray today and not tomorrow…or I’ll pray later, God can wait…” which is not good. God calls the church a house of prayer not a house full of programs and entertainment. Let’s push each other to God. Pray unceasingly means 24 hours a day, 7 times a week. If we don’t pray, we can’t make the angels work; we’ll lose the battle if we can’t move heavens to do something on our behalf.

Bride’s walk

Genesis 24:64 “Rebekah also looked up and saw Isaac. She got down from her camel.”

Amos 3:3 “Do two walk together unless they have agreed to do so?”

There must be an agreement between the bride and the bridegroom whereby there is unity and a covenant of joining together.

Matthew 21:1-5 “As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage on the mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples saying to them, “Go to the village ahead of you, and at once you will find a donkey tied there, with her colt by her. Untie them and bring them to me. If anyone says anything to you, tell him that the Lord needs them, and he will send them right away.” This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet: “Say to the Daughter of Zion, ‘See your king comes to you, gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.’”

Zechariah 9:9 “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! See your king comes to you, righteous and having salvation, gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.”

Revelation 19:8 “Fine linen, bright and clean, was given her to wear.” (Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of the saints.)

1 John 4:17 “In this way, love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the Day of Judgment, because in this world we are like Him.”

1 Timothy 6:16 “Who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see. To Him be honor and might forever. Amen.”

Hebrews 12:29 “…for our ‘God is a consuming fire.”

Psalms 29 “Ascribe to the Lord, O mighty ones, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. Ascribe to the Lord the glory due His name; worship the Lord in the splendor of His holiness. The voice of the Lord is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the Lord thunders over the mighty waters. The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is majestic. The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars; the Lord breaks in pieces the cedars of Lebanon. He makes Lebanon skip like a calf, Sirion like a young wild ox. The voice of the Lord strikes with flashes of lightning. The voice of the Lord shakes the desert; the Lord shakes the Desert of Kadesh. The voice of the Lord twists the oaks and strips the forests bare. And in His temple all cry, ‘Glory!’ The Lord sits enthroned over the flood; the Lord is enthroned as King forever. The Lord gives strength to His people; the Lord blesses His people with peace.”

God is a pure light, consuming fire, great commanding authoritative voice.

1 Timothy 3:16 “Beyond all question, the mystery of godliness is great: He appeared in a body, was vindicated by the Spirit, was seen by angels, was preached among the nations, was believed on in the world, was taken up in glory.”

Hebrews 2:9 “But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, now crowned with glory and honor because He suffered death, so that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone.”

Habakkuk 1:13 “Your eyes are too pure to look on evil; you cannot tolerate wrong. Why then do you tolerate the treacherous? Why are you silent while the wicked swallow up those more righteous than themselves?”

Revelation 4 & 5

Philippians 2:6-8 “Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made Himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled himself and became obedient to death—even death on a cross!”

1. To walk in humility (lowliness and meekness)

One of the greatest lie of devil is this: “No matter how filthy you live but by just confessing the name of the Lord Jesus, you can enter the kingdom of heaven. Why? Because God knows that is your weakness, you’re bond with it”, Satan will say.

Leviticus 18 says that homosexual/gay lifestyle is an abomination in the sight of God. But in other countries people would say, “That is not wrong, it is an alternative lifestyle because God made you like that,” they’d say.

Have you ever seen a gay dog or a lesbian monkey or a homosexual donkey? Nowhere in natural creation will you find gay/homosexuality because all those animals have common sense. They don’t need 6th sense like us. Just a simple common sense that a male can’t mate with a male, common sense. Every creation knows that male can’t mate with a male and a female with another female. The animals know this very well. Look at the plant life; even they know this very well. The creation knows this very well except men who believe in alternative lifestyle. And there are gay pastors, gay bishops, and gay churches. I tell you in all humility that you will never ever find a gay Hindu temple, a gay Buddhist monastery nor gay Muslim mosque. If you claim that they are wrong, why is it that their lifestyles are godlier than yours? Why is it that they know that this is abomination? And why is that we don’t know? Simply because we are under a great delusion. Why is it that the people whom we labeled as heathens can live a godly life or holy life and we who claim who follow the One and true living God lives such a filthy unclean lifestyle?

2. Seeking not to be known – sign of humility.

In Buddhism, there is a teaching called Nirvana which means you take out all the senses and the desires within you until the very desire itself is extinguished. When that person reached that stage that person reaches union in Nirvana and enlightenment opens up. When that person dies, his soul become part of the cosmic universe and becomes nothing. Which means a person struggles so hard in this world to become nothing!

Christians struggle so hard to become well known whilst the Buddhist brothers seek to become nothing. What is the principle? Working very hard to be not known. The self is extinguished. This is humility.

The day you conquered the I-self, me-self and my-self is the day you become a true Christian because that is the nature of your bridegroom. Lowliness means “humiliation and low state” in Greek while meekness means “consist not in a person’s outward behavior only nor yet in his relations to his fellowmen, rather it is an inward grace of the soul. It is the caution of the spirit in which we accept God’s dealings with us for good without murmuring, disputing or resisting; to put this in one word it means gentleness.

1 Peter 3:4 “Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.”

Proverbs 16:5 “The Lord detests all the proud of heart. Be sure of this: they will not go unpunished.”

Pride is the greatest of all sins.

Ezekiel 28:2 “Son of man, say to the ruler of Tyre, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: “In the pride of your heart you say, ‘I am a god; I sit on the throne of a god in the heart of the seas.’ But you are a man not a god, though you think you are as wise as a god.”

Obadiah 1:3 “The pride of your heart has deceived you, you who live in the clefts of the rocks and make your home on the heights, you who say to yourself, ‘Who can bring me down to the ground?’”

Jeremiah 49:16 “The terror you inspire and the pride of your heart have deceived you, you who live in the clefts of the rocks, who occupy the heights of the hill. Though you build your nest as high as the eagle’s, from there I will bring you down,’ declares the Lord.” This tells us that pride deceives your heart because it creates false humility. Outwardly it may give you an impression that you are humble but inwardly it is inflated with pride. You may not know it unless and until the all seeing eyes of God illumines it.

How to recognize that you have pride?

If you ever feel offended or hurt, it means pride. If not as big as a giant at least as small as an ant. But even ants run everywhere enough to destroy you. Why do we feel offended? Because we are conscious of our reputation. That is why when Jesus walk on this earth He said, He counted not His reputation. If you want to be clothed with humility, take down that stupid and good for nothing reputation of yours and put it on the floor. It can’t save you and you can’t even bring your name up to heaven. It will remain in this earth on the tombstone. Not even all the wealth in this earth.

If while you’re alive you have the opportunity to do good and when you refuse to do good, when you die what good is all dead if your coffin with all your money be buried? What’s the use? You can’t take it to the underworld. It will become illegal counterfeit money. You will need money printed in hell.

Tonight, if we can just be absolutely sincere and honest, you’ll just bow down and look into this heart of yours, you can see there’s a lot of pride.

Pride is the root cause to strife, contentions, divisions, murmurings, backbiting, and self-dependent attitudes.

Why do you want to talk about somebody else? Because of your pride. There is pride inside us. We want to gossip, we want to backbite, we want to create strife. This is a very serious disease in the bride’s life.

If you go around having an air of attitude that your pastor doesn’t recognize your talents or your church leadership doesn’t recognize your potentials. What is that attitude? RECOGNITION! Recognition is an outward manifestation of inward pride.

When you are truly clothed with humility, you don’t even realize that you exist because that “I” is no more there. The self is extinguished. One time, a prophet friend of mine share his spiritual visitation in heaven with two ministering spirits in heaven telling him that pride in the eyes of God is the greatest of all sins. Even God can forgive adultery. Let’s suppose you commit adultery hundred times and you turn to God, He can still forgive you…but don’t take this as a license to commit adultery because if you knowingly do that you’ll end up in the flames of heal. Even if a person does that God will still be merciful with kindness to overlook that because of the weakness of human flesh. But one thing that God can’t tolerate is pride.

Isaiah 57:15 God dwells with the humble people with lowly, meek and with contrite heart.

Matthew 18:4 “Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.”

Sin no more. Live a holy life. Know the truth and the truth shall set you free.

Matthew 23:12 “For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.”

Micah 6:8 “He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”

Every pride that you overcome in your life increases the presence of God in your life.

Why was the Lord Jesus Christ able to be filled with the Holy Spirit beyond measure? Because the Lord Jesus Christ was totally dead to “I”.

The very fact that He came to this earth qualify Him to receive the Spirit without measure because He put on humiliation.

John 3:34 “For the one that God has sent speaks the words of God, for God gives the Spirit without limit.”

The bride of Jesus Christ must walk in humility like the bridegroom. If two can’t agree together how can they walk? If you claim to be the bride whose waiting for the rapture of the church with great love, I warn you tonight except you become converted and humble yourself as a little child, you will never enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Secrets of the stairs

MAIN SCRIPTURE:

Songs of Solomon 2:14 “My dove in the clefts of the rock, in the hiding places on the mountainside, show me your face, let me hear your voice; for your voice is sweet, and your face is lovely.”

If we delight in God, He delights in us.

Psalms 37:4 “Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.”

Esther 5:1-3 “On the third day Esther put on her royal robes and stood in the inner court of the palace, in front of the king’s hall. The king was sitting on his royal throne in the hall, facing the entrance. When he saw Queen Esther standing in the court, he was pleased with her and held out to her the gold scepter that was in his hand. So Esther approached and touched the tip of the scepter. Then the king asked, “What is it, Queen Esther? What is your request? Even up to half the kingdom, it will be given you.”

When you delight yourself in the Lord, He will take great delight in you. At that moment your heart is purified, your minds are purified, all the selfish passions, desires once are all purified by fire of the living God. What will emerge from your heart will be a sweet cedar living sacrifice. And when the King looks at the sacrifice, before you open your mouth to ask, He will grant your desires. When you delight yourself in the Lord, all your selfishness die and only the purity rises up before the Lord. When God looks, He sees a pure heart, refined, transformed, purified like fire and He will grant all your partitions. He’ll ask, “What do you want? Whatever you ask, I will give it to you.” It will no longer be a selfish desire, a selfish request but a pure one.

And when you’re delighting in the Lord, Solomon 1:2 “Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth—for your love is more delightful than wine.”

Kisses of his mouth” means an intimate fellowship between bride and bridegroom, an expression of intimacy.

When you come and sit at His feet, why do we always rush through of a formula of quiet time?

I will tell you one truth, one of the greatest evil that we have in the Christian world today is devotional books. They are not evil by itself but they can become evil. Don’t get me wrong. I’ll justify my statement. If you take a devotional book and you read the day’s reading and you close your book and you said “Amen” and you got up and walk away, that book is an evil to you because you had made that book your God (idolatry). That book has replaced the bible. That devotional book has become your god. I use devotional books in my quiet time just to stir up my mind because they are very good. I like the Daily Bread, don’t you? I often use that. They put nice little stories that I use in my messages. But you see they also have Scriptural reading for the day that meditates the bible. You must fit the Word. Devotional books are good as they are that should write our appetite for the real meat that is in the Living Word. Don’t let them become your God.

So what do we do in our Christian life?

Throw away your watches, unplug the telephone, they are two greatest evils to the Christian life. Cp, mobiles, throw them away in the insanitary test. They are all evils that come between you and your bridegroom. They are little foxes that spoil the whines.

Song of Solomon 5:2 I slept but my heart was awake. Listen! My lover is knocking; ‘Open to me, my sister, my darling, my dove, my flawless one. My head is drenched with dew, my hair with the dampness of the night.”

When you sit in the presence of the Lord speak love to Him through songs of praise and worship, express all your love to Him and He will sit beside you and will throw kisses upon your face.

One gentle kiss from Him will wipe away your tears, will heal and bind your broken heart and console your weeping heart.

So what is the secret? Run to his feet. Don’t run to your fellow brothers and sisters asking them to pat you on your shoulder and encourage you in your self pity. Don’t do that. Why are we doing that? You know, that’s what we actually do. We want people to encourage us in our self-pity. I tell you, self pity is a sin. It is a sin in the eyes of God. Don’t wallow in self-pity. But if you bring your broken heart to the Lord Jesus and just forget about your broken hearts and just love Him, the very next moment, He will be right there beside you, put His arms around you with His left arm around you and His right hand holding your face, looking gently at you. He will just say, “Why are you weeping? I’m here with you.” And He’ll take your broken heart in His hands and just bind it and make it one whole and give it back to you. This is what Jesus is willing to do for you if you delight in Him.

How does a bridegroom call His brides? How does He call you?

He calls you “My dove.”

What is so special about doves?

1. Doves are pure, undefiled and harmless.

Matthew 10:16 “Be harmless as doves.”

In Biology, there is an organ in our body that defiles all our internal organs. It makes our internal organ unclean. Only the dove doesn’t have this organ. In all of God’s creations, only the dove doesn’t have that organ that defiles all the other internal organs. As a result the dove is pure within, that’s why it is chosen as a symbol for the Holy Spirit. Now you know why the Holy Spirit is called as “He comes like a dove.” There is absolutely no impurity inside a dove. She’s not only white in the outside, but also in the inside.

So who are you? He calls you “a dove.” Your bride, Jesus calls you “My dove.” If you are a dove, number one qualification of a bride, she must be pure, undefiled and harmless. Harmless means the absence of any evil intentions against one another in one’s heart and thoughts. Those are not words of love but of revenge.

2. Secondly, the dove is faithful and truthful to one’s spouse.

This is a very interesting character about a dove. When a dove finds a mate, both of them will remain absolutely true and faithful to one another. In them is this marriage covenant fulfill, “Till death do we part.” When one spouse dies, the other one will not find another spouse but will remain faithful and truthful and just mourn and mourn for the lost loved ones until he or she also dies.

Isaiah 59:11 Talks about the mourning of a dove. “…We moan mournfully like doves.”

3. She is single-minded in her walk in life.

When the dove set her eyes on her spouse, she will not look on another person. She will remain devoted and sees nothing else. How do we bring this to into the Christian life?

Psalms 27:4 “One thing I asked of the Lord, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to seek Him in His temple.”

Now look at the first part, “One thing have I desired of the Lord that will I seek after.” not two or three things but one. This scripture contains all the blessings, gifts and mysteries of God. One thing have I desired, I desired that and I will seek after that until I get it. No turning left, no turning right. Like the doves, single-minded devotion!

We don’t get what we’re seeking for because we give up halfway, we get tired of waiting. Do you know God is the master of waiting? We must practice waiting. Many Christians have good intentions as you have fail because you don’t seek and pursue after, you just fall short of reaching the end.

He that endures till the end, only he will be saved.” <Matt 24: 13>

If you desire the house of God, if you desire the beauty of God, seek, don’t stop until you find. Seek and you shall surely find, knock and the door shall surely be opened. This is the command from the Lord Jesus. Why is the door not been opened because we’re not knocking enough. You must kept on knocking and knocking until the inhabitants get sick and tired of you and they must come to open the door.

In a parable in Luke 18, Jesus talks about a travelling widow. He said, there was this widow who makes an application to the judge. He couldn’t care about the application so she decided to keep on knocking and knocking and knocking. Do you know, the woman have this gift. You have been blessed with the gift of nagging. But that’s not the end of the story. The end of the story is this, but you have used that to glorify the devil in your life. Nagging is negative. When you turn nagging around, it becomes intercession. Use your gift to intercede. That is why most intercessors are women. You have the gift inside you. Remember, I told you on the first day, you don’t know who you are, what is the inherent power inside you. The devil knows. So he made you use the powerful gift that you have negatively for destruction. Instead of moving the throne of God, you’re moving your husband, you’re children, and you’re driving everybody nuts.

In the early days of Dr. Billy Grahams’ ministry, he was just beginning to get popular. This was in the 50s. One day, he went to a town in the US and he had a week of revival there. The entire city was born again. All the borders closed, liquor shops closed, all movie theaters were closed, and they all got saved. Everybody in that town was in the stadium everyday for seven days and all the policemen had no job to do. So after the crusade, reverend Graham went back to his hometown and knelt down to give thanks to God. He said, “Lord, thank you for giving me a huge harvest today in those meetings.” As he was praying, the Lord spoke to him, He said, “My son, all the harvest I’m not putting it to your account, I’m putting it on the account of a poor widow in that town.” Billy Graham was very shocked, “What do you mean Lord?” The Lord told him, “For three years, this widow was praying to me, ‘Lord please send Billy Graham to our town.’ For three years, day and night she prayed without sleeping. She interceded for her town for three years. The Lord told him, “It was her intercessions that saved this town not you. You just came in with a sickle to reap the harvest but she’s responsible for everything.” Nobody knew about this old woman, the whole town only saw Billy Graham publicly but the eyes of the Lord saw her. This is the great weapon that you have inside you. So don’t use your gift for the devil, use it for God and before too long, your husband will be sitting in these meetings.

Seek after, be single minded in your devotion. Don’t give up. ‘One thing have I desired.’ If you sincerely seek the face of God, if you sincerely seek the glory of God, if you sincerely seek the house of God, don’t fall short. Don’t give up until you get it. You must have stubborn faith. Don’t be stubborn in your attitude. See stubbornness that is positive and negative. Use your stubbornness to move God. That is good stubborn. Don’t be stubborn with each other. That is bad stubborn. Many negative qualities inside us can be transformed into good qualities. Be stubborn with sin. Why do we love sin and we are stubborn with holiness? Be stubborn with sin. Why are you disobeying God when you could disobey the devil?! God asked you to do small thing and you’d give Him 1001 excuses. When the devil asked you to do a big thing you’d immediately obey. Why? Obey God, disobey the devil.

One thing have I desired, that I will seek after. I sought Him, who’s my so “beloved”. Do you really love the Lord Jesus Christ with all your heart or you think you love or you pretend to love Him? This is a question you sincerely need to ask yourself and look into your heart. If you really love Him then you must seek after Him whom you longs for. Christianity is no longer a religion, it is a relationship.

Now, where is this dove? Jeremiah 48:20

She is found hiding in the clefts of the rock. That is where they make their nests so that it will be kept for security and safety, hidden from danger and since clefts are secret places in the rocks where normally people can’t easily find. Only doves know them. That is their security. Nothing can shake them. Nothing can move them, all safety is guaranteed.

Are you hiding in your secret place? Not the secret place of God but in your own secret place? Does God have access from the clefts in your life? Are you hiding your hearts, your secrets from God? Is there a place in your life where even God has no right to touch? Many people make a cleft in their heart, in their lives and they hide there and they will not even allowed God to touch those areas. Do you have that place in your life? If you are a bride, you can’t remain there anymore. That maybe is your safety; you like to hide there. Whatever may be your backgrounds-good, bad, ugly. Whether you are abused as a child, whether you’re molested as a child, whether you’re deeply hurt by Christian leaders, we tend to hide, build a wall around ourselves and hide there. And you don’t want to trust anybody else in this world and you don’t want to allow anybody to come near you and you create a secret place where you hide underneath where you even have set boundaries for God. A bride can’t be like that. If there is such a place like that in your life, you’ll never be healed, you’ll never be delivered. That vacuums if not treated will be destructive. It will destroy you, and all those who are around you and all those who come and contact with you. Forget the past, unless you are willing to let go the past, God can’t do a new thing in your life. I tell you today, 101 prophets can come and prophesy to you ‘God will do new thing in your life’, but I’ll tell you today from the word of the eternal God, unless and until you let go of the old, no good thing can God do in your life.

Isaiah 43:19 “See I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland.”

Forget the formal things. Forget the old glory. If your church splits and you established a new church, don’t keep on saying ‘Oh in the past, it was like this…like that…’

Forget the past! Behold God does a new thing.

Does not the Scripture say, the glory of the latter house is greater than the former house? So why are you longing for the former house when the latter house is better? If God wants to make the latter half of your life better, then why are you contented to stay in the former half? Why? Why are you holding on to your past? Let it go. If you won’t, the healing love of Jesus Christ can’t flow. Many times, people are not healed because they are hiding secrets in their hearts.

The first night when I came to preach here, that evening as I was waiting on the Lord. The Lord said, “Today, I am going to heal many people, but there are many women who had wound problem, they have sin of unforgiveness in their hearts. Unless they let it go, they can’t be healed.” See, secrets that you hide in your heart, the secret places in your heart that you created in your heart and that you hide there, the healing anointing can’t flow. I have many records in my office how many sick people were not healed because of sin. And then they are healed when the sin is forgiven especially in the areas of bitterness. This was what the Lord Jesus Christ told me one day, “When a woman has sicknesses in the area of her womb, breasts, asthma, the root causes of this are bitterness, anger, unforgiveness.” This was what the Lord Jesus told me, “Whenever people come to you for such sickness, first ask them these three questions, “Unless and until they let go of this three, they can’t be healed.” And ever since Jesus had told me this, I put this to the test. Out of 10 women who come to me for prayer concerning sickness in this area of their body, 9 of them always said one of the three problems. Unforgiveness, anger, bitterness–why keep them when they are destructive? Why do you keep on to them as if they are your teddy bear to hug? They are not good teddy bears. It is strangling your life. They are not as cuddly bears that can cuddle. These kinds of bear are real bear that are tearing your life, your health apart to pieces. So why do you want to hold on to that anger? Whether you are justified to feel angry, bitter or not, that is not the issue, perhaps you are justified, that is not the issue, the issue is it is destroying you so why keep something inside you when it is designed to destroy you? Take it out and throw it outside. Today you’ll be absolutely healed. Whatever anger you have, whatever bitterness or unforgiveness, just let it go.

Is there a place in your life where it’s off limits to God?

If you want to be the bride, you can not dwell in those clefts of the rocks. When you want to be the bride to take the first step forward, yourself must die.

Matthew 16:24 “Then Jesus said to His disciples, ‘If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.”

The bridegroom is calling the bride to come.

Songs of Solomon 2:10 “My beloved spoke to me, ‘rise up my love, my fair one and come away.’ (Arise, my darling, my beautiful one, and come with me.”

Why is He calling her like that? Because she’s hiding down below in the clefts of the secret places and the bridegroom is standing at the top of the cleft and looking down and said, ‘Oh my dove, rise up, come up, don’t hide there, come up.’ The bridegroom is calling. Come away from the clefts up the stairs to meet your God.

What are stairs? They are ascensions, order of ascension.

If you want to meet God, you know another wrong prayer that we all prayed in our churches is “Lord, touch me.” Have you prayed that prayer? But the bridegroom’s prayer is this, He’ll say, “I have touch you enough, you touch me.” This is the exact words that came from the lips of the Lord Jesus, “I have touched you enough, you now touch me.” You see, He look at the bride and said, “Come up.” but the bride is saying, “You come down.” It doesn’t look like that. You must come up. The bride is saying, “Lord, come down, touch me, bless me, and do me good.” but the bridegroom is saying, “Come up, my dove, come away my fair ward.”

If you want to walk with God in the intimacy of the King’s big chamber, He has a place. You know, you can pray anywhere–in your car, kitchen, in your bed, anywhere you like but there is a secret place of the Most High God. If you want to have an intimate relationship with Him, you must come there not He come to you when you are driving your car. That is different. Don’t mix the food together. That is different. There is a place by God.

Look at Exodus 19:20; 24:12 “The Lord descended to the top of Mount Sinai and called Moses to the top of the mountain. So Moses went up. The Lord said to Moses, ‘Come up to me on the mountain and stay here, and I will give you the tablets of stone…”

In this two Scriptures, God wanted to reveal Himself a magnification of His glory to Moses and He told Moses, “Come up the mountain and I will meet with you.” Why didn’t God come down to meet Moses? He doesn’t walk that way. Sorry for the bad news. He doesn’t walk like that. You come up. Why are many people, sincere as they are in their desire to see God? How many of you like to see the Lord? How many of you like to hear the voice of Jesus Christ speaking to you? Sincere as you are, why are you not seeing or hearing Him? It’s because, you have not climbed up, you are sitting down in your comfort and say, “Come down.” It doesn’t work like that. So He’s waiting patiently for you to come to your senses and know that He is the Holy One who inhabits eternity. He is not your slave. Many times when Christians pray I always wonder who is God because when they pray they sound that they are God and God is their slave. They said, “God go and do this, God go and do that.” Who is God? your slave? Do you know who God is? How can we talk to Him like that? Such irreverence…

Do you know that is the reason why I told you earlier, the charismatic church doesn’t have a clue about worshipping God in the beauty of holiness. To her, everything is just easy. You can chew gums and pray, you can chew gums and worship. These are all insults to the holiness of God. Only cows chew, you know. If you don’t believe me, come to India. They are called to chew. That is their calling. If you chew, who are you then? Praise the Lord. Do you know why the eastern churches have an intimate walk with God? Because we reverence God. The western church doesn’t know how to reverence God. She just plays with God. She thinks God is just a next-door neighbor friend like how you say, “Dog, I love you.” that same word she use to Jesus, “Lord I love you.” It doesn’t work but I will tell you one truth, that doesn’t diminish His love for you. He blesses you as far as His grace goes. But the moment you rise up to meet Him in His place, you see His glory. You walk in His glory. You talk in His glory. That is the place. <Exodus 33> Now Moses wanted to see the glory of God and this is what God told Him.

Remember I told you there are some loopholes in the laws of God.

There you will see scripturally, a loophole in Exodus 33:20, “You cannot see my face, for no one may see me and live.” How do you think Moses must have felt when God said this? His face must have suddenly turned like a small little boy looking with great longing into his Father’s face. Do you have children like that? When your children have that kind of a face, can you say no to them? I have 6 nephews. When any one of them come to me with such a face, whatever anger I may have in my heart for them, will just melt like wax. So Moses had such a face and the Lord looked down. His heart was moved with wax. He said, “What can I do?” He created a loophole. Look at verse 21. “There is a place by me and I will put thee in a cleft of the rock…” This scripture is cross- linked to the Songs of Solomon 2:14 “there is a place by God…”

If you want to know God intimately as a bride would know her bridegroom, you must climb up the secret stairs to meet the Lord God where He is.

How to climb up?

1. Praise and worship. When you begin to praise and worship God, all the impurities in your heart are washed away, cleansed. Purification takes place.

2. Meditate the Word of God. When you meditate the Word of God, Ephesians 5:26 says, “God’s word is like water.” John 17:17 says, “His Word sanctifies.” John 15:3 says, “By my Word you were clean.” So when you meditate the Word of God, your mind is cleansed. Not only that, every one of us have one common problem when we pray–our minds wanders around. Have you? Is that your experience? Your mind wanders around the whole world. Suddenly you remember everything under the sun. All the hidden things all come to the surface of your mind and you suddenly remember everything and you forget the Bible.

Now, when you praise, the mind begins to keep quiet. When you meditate the Word, the mind is furthered bind and brought into oneness with God, you don’t just enter into prayer. That is imperfection. See Esther did not immediately come and stand before the king. She fasted for three days; she put on the royal robe then came and stood before the king.

Two stages–praise and worship and meditate the Word of God.

By the time you sincerely praise and worship and meditated the Word, I promise you, your mind will have come in stillness and oneness before the Holy Spirit. Then pray. In that state, when you pray, your heart will never waiver, your mind will never wander. You’ll be in oneness of heart and mind together with the Holy Spirit. This is the real meaning of the Scripture, “Where there are two or three gathered in My name, I’ll be there in their midst.” Not just physically 2 and 3. Two is your spirit and your soul and the third is the Holy Spirit, then you will become one. And the Lord Jesus Christ is there. And your eyes will behold Him and your heart will see Him. Your ears can hear Him.

3. Waiting on God. Most Christians practice the other 2 but this last stage, 99.9% of Christians don’t practice this at all or are ignorant of this. This is the foundation of your walk with God. If you don’t have this foundation, you can’t walk with God. Let me give you one example. In Exodus 24: 12-15, God told Moses to come up to the mountain to talk to Him. When Moses went up the mountain, he waited there for 6 days. Before God’s glory came down, he patiently waited for 6 days. Then on the 7th day, the cloud of glory came down and God spoke to him face to face for 40 days and 40 nights. Suppose you were there in that mount. First day, you waited on God and He didn’t come down. You would have received a ton of e-mails calling you back to office. You would immediately come down the mountain. Thank God Moses did not have a cellular phone. Even if he had, he would have given it to Joshua and say, “You take care about all the calls while I wait on God.” Look at this man; he patiently waited for 6 days hoping the next day God would come. He didn’t even know when God will come.

Do you know what’s the key for a great being great? Why is Enoch in our eyes great? Why is Moses great? Why is Abraham great? Why is Elijah great? What makes them great? Is it their great spirituality? I tell you the secret of that. They are great because they simply obeyed. Simple right? They simply obeyed without any questions. No questions asked. God told Moses, “Come and wait.” Period. There was no other tone in Moses’ mind, he only had told to do one think and he just waited for six days. If God didn’t show up and if He’d only showed up in the 40th day, Moses would still be waiting because the Lord told him to wait. The Lord did not say, “Wait for some time and see if I didn’t come, go back home.” Did He say that? He didn’t say that. This is our problem. We cannot obey. We always want to question God.

True Spirituality’s foundation is obedience. If you want to walk with God, you must obey. “Forsake all and follow Me”, says the Lord. If you forsake all, you must believe with silent simplicity that He will take care of you. He will, if you obey.

Now look at Jesus when He was on this earth, He did that. Matthew 14:23, Luke 6:12; 9:28; John 6:15, He climbed up the mountain, He climbed up the secret place, the secret stairs to talk with God.

Finally, while you’re up there, verse 14 says, “Let me see your face, let me see your voice, make yourself known to God.”

1 Corinthians 13:12 tells us that Jesus Christ your bridegroom waits for you to reveal yourself to Him.

Solomon 5:2 and Revelation 3:20 tells us that He knocks at the door, waits for you to open.

He’s waiting for you to reveal your heart to Him. Whatever is in your heart, open your heart and talk to God. Don’t follow King James in English in prayer; don’t follow grammatically correct sentences before God in prayer, talk like a little child to God. Whatever is in your heart, freely talk to Him.

1 Corinthians 8:3 “Love opens up your heart to God.”

The bridegroom desires to see your face, to hear your voice, to see your heart, open, unveil yourself, make yourself naked before His all seeing eyes and tell Him what is in your heart. Everything, hide no secrets. Between a husband and wife, there must be no secrets.

AS THE DEER

God spoke to me from deep within my heart. He speaks to us every day but we don’t always recognize His voice or hear Him nor notice that He is speaking to us. Like the flood, typhoon or whatever calamities that come in our lives through problems, since our problems are our natural calamities, He directly speak to us through real physical destruction: typhoons, hurricanes, tornadoes, flood, earthquakes, fire, plagues that destroy our crops, properties…and even our physical body.

DEVOTION:Psalms 29: 1-11 says,

1 Ascribe to the Lord, O mighty ones, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.

2 Ascribe to the Lord in the splendor of his holiness.

3 The voice of the Lord is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the Lord thunders over the mighty waters.

4 The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is majestic.

5 The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars of Lebanon.

6 He makes Lebanon skip like a calf, Sirion like a young wild ox.

7 The voice of the Lord strikes with flashes of lightning.

8 The voice of the Lord shakes the desert; the Lord shakes the Desert of Kadesh.

9 The voice of the Lord twists the oaks and strips the forests bare.

And in his temple all cry, “Glory!”

10 The Lord sits enthroned over the flood; the Lord is enthroned as King forever.

11 The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses His people.

We are powerless but God is powerful, we have a powerful God. We are created to give unto the Lord glory, strength and worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness. What make Him beautiful is not the physical qualities but His holiness. However, we tend to be proud because we also wanted to be glorified and worshipped (fame, acceptance, and self-gratification). That is why God disciplined, warned, remind us by directly speaking to us through flood, typhoon, earthquake, thunder, fire…For instance, in the days of Noah, the voice of God is over the waters.

V.4 …the voice of the Lord is powerful. The voice of the Lord is full of majesty.

In verse 5, it mentioned that the voice of the Lord breaks the cedars. Cedar is a tree. When a strong typhoon strikes, it can even pull out the roots of a strong tree, struck it down and break it.

In Exodus 14: 21, it mentioned that though Moses stretched his hand over the sea, it was not his power that drove the sea back with the strong east wind and turned it into dry land but it was God’s hand. And if that east wind was used to show God’s power and majesty, He could also use another east wind to strike a nation for example like what had happened to Visayas especially to Tacloban City which was devastated by an east wind so that He could show He’s in control. He is all powerful. Since He is a just God, He disciplined us if we deem to be disciplined.

In verse 7, “the voice of the Lord divides the flames of fire.” Volcanoes may be sleeping but God could also speak through them. Here in my current city (Davao), the biggest/ largest city in Asia, the people are confident because it does not experienced great typhoon or earthquake. However, here lies the highest and the largest elevated volcano in my country. One eruption could blow the whole city and cover it up.

In verse 8, “the voice of the Lord shakes the desert…”Earthquake is unpredictable. What nation could boast and say, “I am great!” when she’d be shaken, ifits foundations tremble and if all on her surface breaks and fall apart? When Japan was struck by Tsunami, its high technology was not able to fully control the destruction. God resist the proud but gives grace to the humble. When He sees that we are not depending on Him because we thought we already are great and have everything, He will punish, discipline or reprimand us because He loves us. He will show His supremacy over to us since without Him, we are nothing.

Nevertheless, let us not lose hope. All this natural calamities and disasters will really come to pass but God himself as faithful, loving, gracious and merciful as He is has promised that He’ll give us feet like that of a deer. He mentioned it three times in separate scriptures. See 2 Samuel 22:34; Psalms 18:33; Habakkuk 3:19. They all says, “He makes my feet like the feet of deer, and sets me on high places.”

What is the feet of the deer looked like or why does our Father wants us to have the feet like the deer’s? Simply because its feet is designed to climb even the highest mountains gracefully! In a way He wanted us to walk, run or climb in a graceful manner; He also wanted us to climb not just at the foot of the mountain, but onits peak! We are not the tail, but the head. Through His Son Jesus Christ we are victorious by the blood of the lamb, by His own son’s blood!

That is why if we do say “REJOICE IN THE LORD ALWAYS.” we must not grimace if we are in pain or in distress if problems or worries besets us as if we have a weak and useless God because certainly we have a strong and powerful God who is in control. “Rejoice in the Lord ALWAYS” means in pain or in gain.In the book “The Purpose Driven Life” written by Rick Warren, he mentioned that “Problems force you to focus on God, draw you closer to others in fellowship, build Christ-like character, provide you with a ministry, and give you a testimony. Every problem is purpose-driven.”

MEDITATE:Psalms 127:1 says, “Unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain.”

They are new every morning, great is thy faithfulness!

Angry yet merciful GOD (Typhoon Haiyan’s aftermath)

READ: Psalm 107:23-31; Psalm 107:33-34; Psalm 97:7; Psalm 78:31-34; Psalm 18:7-15; Psalm 106:36

I was trying to digest last Sunday’s sermon when the pastor illustrated God’s word in line with the typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) that hit Philippines last November 18. She boldly said that despite the calamity, God has no message and God speak nothing during the typhoon, but only after it, when a total silence was heard. She illustrated that God only wanted to let His people know that He is supreme and powerful God by quoting

Acts 27 about Paul’s voyage for Rome, as an example. She further added physical laws that could possibly explained any catastrophe like typhoon and that we must stop blaming God because God’s ways and thinking are so far different with humans’. Finally, she emphasized that Philippines is not the center of the universe to rebut the viral worldwide negative opinions of some (both Christians and non), who were telling that we received it as punishment for our sins as sinful nation.

However, when I peruse and meditate upon the book of Revelation, Matthew, Acts, Isaiah and other similar Books in the Bible which commonly talks about devastation as God’s way of punishment, reminders and signs of His second coming, there’s some thing within me that strongly opposes to hers. Yes, there are experts who can attest their data reliable to explain that typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) was man-made. This is how Science deals with the anxious people. That all things on the face of the Earth have explanation, why they exist, evolve and vanish opposing the spiritual/divine perspective.

So, what’s the use of prophesy? Aren’t those message from God? Aren’t those so-called modern day prophets telling signs of visions before the devastation (7.2 magnitude earthquake and super Typhoon Haiyan) hit Philippines messengers of God? Were those signs and visions mere product of hallucination, imagination or lies which in fact did happened? There had been a prophesy telling Cebu will be washed out from the Philippine archipelago since it needs cleaning from pollution, idolatry and other forms of sin. Then another on telling there only would be a single island left in the Philippines after another devastation would happened–totally destroying the nation from the face of the Earth.

Again, when the pastor in the church I was attending to speak about the Philippines as not the center of the universe, we understood that she’s trying to appease or free the congregation from guilt from the viral comments against us-victims of  these devastations. Those comments like you are being punished by God because of your wicked ways reminds me of Sodom and Gomorrah in the old testament and how Israel were attacked by its enemies due to its stubbornness and wickedness—all with the consent of God as a father’s discipline to His children.

I don’t want to go against her. I highly respect servants of God. Her stand that God send typhoon to show His sovereignty, no more, no less draw me in bewilderment because I am anticipating that she would ask the congregation to repent and turn to God. Why did I expect her to do so? Does it mean I disagree upon God’s sovereignty that when He would want to send any calamity with whatever reason is, He can do so since He’s so powerful? Certainly not!

I expected that she would call upon the congregation to repent because there’s a fire inside me that was bursting. But she didn’t. So I left the church with an empty heart yet I can still feel the desire to repent  for my nation’s wickedness and so I did while my heart was continually being shattered by the news–the aftermath of typhoon Haiyan and the million prayers and aid from countries around the world.

REACT: God has a purpose for everything in our life. Sometimes by calling us to repent and to worship the true God and to know Him by accepting Him as our God and personal savior. And whether man-made or not, let’s pray without ceasing that we can endure the rage of nature since we can’t predict its aftermath. One thing I learned from all these havoc that wrack our senses is that the spirit of unity, ingenuity, understanding, humility, optimism and strong faith to God is not in its deep sleep. It may take a nap but I thank these calamities for waking us all up.

Sympathy–a very appeasing word is not just the act of praying to those grieved individuals but giving hands–which turns into empathy.

Prayer :

A prayer of deliverance (Psalms 60:1-5; Psalms 115:1-8)

“You have rejected us, God, and defeated us;

You have been angry with us—but now turn back to us.

You had made the land tremble, you have cut it open;

now heal its wounds, because it is falling apart.

You have made your people suffer greatly;

We stagger around us though we were drunk.

You have warned those who have reverence for you,

So that they might escape destruction.”

… “To you alone, O Lord, to you alone and not us, must glory be given because of your constant love and faithfulness. Why should the nations ask us, “Where is your God?” Our God is in heaven; He does whatever He wishes. Their gods are made of silver and gold, formed by human hands. They have mouths, but cannot speak, and eyes but cannot see. They have ears, but cannot hear and noses but cannot smell. They have hands, but cannot feel and feet, but cannot walk; they cannot make a sound. May all who made them and who trust in them become like the idols they have made. “
