Today, I’m thanking God for giving me a new exciting day. Things may not come up as I expected or planned it to be, but it turned out so wonderful more than I expected.
Since childhood, I had the feeling of wanting to get lost in the place new, to the unknown. That’s what youth thinks out of curiosity, the part of growing, but at least not to the way of destruction. There is a healthy experiment that God leaves us as He does not create us as robots or puppets without the will to choose what we wanted, but of course with His supervision as a parent is to His child.
So, whenever I feel I needed to search something about myself or for something, to ponder, I usually ride a public vehicle say a bus, van, jeepney, or any sorts of as long as it could take me anywhere. The fact is, I wanted to see the greeneries, waterways, mountains, nature to make my soul find rest. Where you there?
Then, after realizing, oh this is quite far enough, I stopped and went back. Just like in the movie Forrest Gump where he run and run and run without a goal, no aim at all, and when he’s asked why he run he said, “just as long as I could.” Until he stopped and returned.
Anything, even a little or senseless may it sound for others do have significant value for us. Our life-stories is already written by God before we were born.
So, what’s got into me today?
I intended to attend a three-day Women’s Conference as invited by our pastor which I thought will start today. So, I set my alarmed clock last night. Funny that my cat woke me up 5 minutes before it rang, an hour after, I sprinted to the conference venue. But guess what, I was told by the guard it will start tomorrow. I wanted to confirm it myself so I checked the ad posted on the wall, it is confirmed tomorrow not today! Here’s the pic.
“Okay, it’s not my loss waking up early since I could go to my dentist instead for my monthly appointment,” I told myself. When I arrived at the clinic, guess what, “THE DOCTOR IS OUT”. The secretary told me he’s out for something more important.
“Alright, then this is the perfect time to go home…as I was crossing the road, I stopped for a while to capture a new constructed high-rise building in my city. Here’s the pic.
As I was walking on the not-so-busy-street, I decided why not walk my way home. But, guess what, at the end of the block, I got tired so I said, “I need to ride a tricycle.” Unfortunately, no one seemed to let me in. So I turned around and decided to go to the mall to look for a DVD player and speaker that I really plan on buying at the end of this month. I said, “Oh now is the perfect time, God really willed it.” I ride on a jeepney. I told the driver to drop me at SM Lanang. I prefer farther so I can, you know, enjoy the ride, to ponder, thinking I am missing a lot of air, the outside world because I’m working every day until midnight and woke up late as late as 12 noon. But guess what, I have ridden the wrong vehicle. It turned the other way. I thought to myself, “Yeah this is what you want right, to get lost or reach places you haven’t been?” As the vehicle continue to move on, I felt excited, knowing that this day is unplanned which make me feel thrilled a bit.
The driver realized that, asked me, “Where are you really heading?” I said, “Just go on, I’ll tell you where.” It gets farther and farther. New place. Desire met. Then, I said, “Stopped.” I pretended to drop by a fast-food restaurant. Went inside to refresh myself since it’s getting hotter outside.
After that, I went out, decided to go back (not home since I’m planning to still look for DVD player and speaker in the nearest mall, at least nearest to my workplace. I found a jeepney waiting for passengers. I got in. At least, my story in that ride didn’t end usual, since I met two old women as old as 79 and 60. They melt my heart seeing at the other one with a walking stick, missing teeth and hunch back, but still trying to work for a living, they even tried to sell us their peanut butter telling at least for their transpo fare. They are simple people, yet they are happy and could give a big smile. I realized that inside the jeepney were different people of different walks of life—some may be rich, some poor and some are really-really poor.
I been working every day to make a living, sometimes I’m stressed out due to workloads. But there are some who are, who don’t even have enough. I am thankful that God is taking care of us all. He is the source of everything. . . of all our needs.
Eventually, I reached the mall and climbed the overpass where I saw beggars. It melts my heart again. I gave some amount and talked to some of them. I realized that they don’t only need our charity, but our HEARTS. It’s so easy to give and walk away. But, to stop and listen to them, is scant, even impossible to do since we are all so busy. Everyone needs to be accepted, to belong and to realize their life-purpose.
When I got inside the mall, I roamed and saw at a distant a carousel. Since childhood, I always wanted to ride a merry-go-round but haven’t had the chance. So, I drag my feet near to it, gazing at the children who are really having fun with the ride and smiled by that scenery. It made me so happy.
So, I’ll end up my today’s story here. How about you, what’s your story today?
God is awesome and unpredictable God. He teaches us lessons every day and He could even speaks to us in mysterious ways.
“Delight yourself in the Lord and He shall give you your heart’s desire.”
To God be the glory!
