Songs of Solomon 2:14 “My dove in the clefts of the rock, in the hiding places on the mountainside, show me your face, let me hear your voice; for your voice is sweet, and your face is lovely.”
If we delight in God, He delights in us.
Psalms 37:4 “Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.”
Esther 5:1-3 “On the third day Esther put on her royal robes and stood in the inner court of the palace, in front of the king’s hall. The king was sitting on his royal throne in the hall, facing the entrance. When he saw Queen Esther standing in the court, he was pleased with her and held out to her the gold scepter that was in his hand. So Esther approached and touched the tip of the scepter. Then the king asked, “What is it, Queen Esther? What is your request? Even up to half the kingdom, it will be given you.”
When you delight yourself in the Lord, He will take great delight in you. At that moment your heart is purified, your minds are purified, all the selfish passions, desires once are all purified by fire of the living God. What will emerge from your heart will be a sweet cedar living sacrifice. And when the King looks at the sacrifice, before you open your mouth to ask, He will grant your desires. When you delight yourself in the Lord, all your selfishness die and only the purity rises up before the Lord. When God looks, He sees a pure heart, refined, transformed, purified like fire and He will grant all your partitions. He’ll ask, “What do you want? Whatever you ask, I will give it to you.” It will no longer be a selfish desire, a selfish request but a pure one.
And when you’re delighting in the Lord, Solomon 1:2 “Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth—for your love is more delightful than wine.”
“Kisses of his mouth” means an intimate fellowship between bride and bridegroom, an expression of intimacy.
When you come and sit at His feet, why do we always rush through of a formula of quiet time?
I will tell you one truth, one of the greatest evil that we have in the Christian world today is devotional books. They are not evil by itself but they can become evil. Don’t get me wrong. I’ll justify my statement. If you take a devotional book and you read the day’s reading and you close your book and you said “Amen” and you got up and walk away, that book is an evil to you because you had made that book your God (idolatry). That book has replaced the bible. That devotional book has become your god. I use devotional books in my quiet time just to stir up my mind because they are very good. I like the Daily Bread, don’t you? I often use that. They put nice little stories that I use in my messages. But you see they also have Scriptural reading for the day that meditates the bible. You must fit the Word. Devotional books are good as they are that should write our appetite for the real meat that is in the Living Word. Don’t let them become your God.
So what do we do in our Christian life?
Throw away your watches, unplug the telephone, they are two greatest evils to the Christian life. Cp, mobiles, throw them away in the insanitary test. They are all evils that come between you and your bridegroom. They are little foxes that spoil the whines.
Song of Solomon 5:2 “I slept but my heart was awake. Listen! My lover is knocking; ‘Open to me, my sister, my darling, my dove, my flawless one. My head is drenched with dew, my hair with the dampness of the night.”
When you sit in the presence of the Lord speak love to Him through songs of praise and worship, express all your love to Him and He will sit beside you and will throw kisses upon your face.
One gentle kiss from Him will wipe away your tears, will heal and bind your broken heart and console your weeping heart.
So what is the secret? Run to his feet. Don’t run to your fellow brothers and sisters asking them to pat you on your shoulder and encourage you in your self pity. Don’t do that. Why are we doing that? You know, that’s what we actually do. We want people to encourage us in our self-pity. I tell you, self pity is a sin. It is a sin in the eyes of God. Don’t wallow in self-pity. But if you bring your broken heart to the Lord Jesus and just forget about your broken hearts and just love Him, the very next moment, He will be right there beside you, put His arms around you with His left arm around you and His right hand holding your face, looking gently at you. He will just say, “Why are you weeping? I’m here with you.” And He’ll take your broken heart in His hands and just bind it and make it one whole and give it back to you. This is what Jesus is willing to do for you if you delight in Him.
How does a bridegroom call His brides? How does He call you?
He calls you “My dove.”
What is so special about doves?
1. Doves are pure, undefiled and harmless.
Matthew 10:16 “Be harmless as doves.”
In Biology, there is an organ in our body that defiles all our internal organs. It makes our internal organ unclean. Only the dove doesn’t have this organ. In all of God’s creations, only the dove doesn’t have that organ that defiles all the other internal organs. As a result the dove is pure within, that’s why it is chosen as a symbol for the Holy Spirit. Now you know why the Holy Spirit is called as “He comes like a dove.” There is absolutely no impurity inside a dove. She’s not only white in the outside, but also in the inside.
So who are you? He calls you “a dove.” Your bride, Jesus calls you “My dove.” If you are a dove, number one qualification of a bride, she must be pure, undefiled and harmless. Harmless means the absence of any evil intentions against one another in one’s heart and thoughts. Those are not words of love but of revenge.
2. Secondly, the dove is faithful and truthful to one’s spouse.
This is a very interesting character about a dove. When a dove finds a mate, both of them will remain absolutely true and faithful to one another. In them is this marriage covenant fulfill, “Till death do we part.” When one spouse dies, the other one will not find another spouse but will remain faithful and truthful and just mourn and mourn for the lost loved ones until he or she also dies.
Isaiah 59:11 Talks about the mourning of a dove. “…We moan mournfully like doves.”
3. She is single-minded in her walk in life.
When the dove set her eyes on her spouse, she will not look on another person. She will remain devoted and sees nothing else. How do we bring this to into the Christian life?
Psalms 27:4 “One thing I asked of the Lord, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to seek Him in His temple.”
Now look at the first part, “One thing have I desired of the Lord that will I seek after.” not two or three things but one. This scripture contains all the blessings, gifts and mysteries of God. One thing have I desired, I desired that and I will seek after that until I get it. No turning left, no turning right. Like the doves, single-minded devotion!
We don’t get what we’re seeking for because we give up halfway, we get tired of waiting. Do you know God is the master of waiting? We must practice waiting. Many Christians have good intentions as you have fail because you don’t seek and pursue after, you just fall short of reaching the end.
“He that endures till the end, only he will be saved.” <Matt 24: 13>
If you desire the house of God, if you desire the beauty of God, seek, don’t stop until you find. Seek and you shall surely find, knock and the door shall surely be opened. This is the command from the Lord Jesus. Why is the door not been opened because we’re not knocking enough. You must kept on knocking and knocking until the inhabitants get sick and tired of you and they must come to open the door.
In a parable in Luke 18, Jesus talks about a travelling widow. He said, there was this widow who makes an application to the judge. He couldn’t care about the application so she decided to keep on knocking and knocking and knocking. Do you know, the woman have this gift. You have been blessed with the gift of nagging. But that’s not the end of the story. The end of the story is this, but you have used that to glorify the devil in your life. Nagging is negative. When you turn nagging around, it becomes intercession. Use your gift to intercede. That is why most intercessors are women. You have the gift inside you. Remember, I told you on the first day, you don’t know who you are, what is the inherent power inside you. The devil knows. So he made you use the powerful gift that you have negatively for destruction. Instead of moving the throne of God, you’re moving your husband, you’re children, and you’re driving everybody nuts.
In the early days of Dr. Billy Grahams’ ministry, he was just beginning to get popular. This was in the 50s. One day, he went to a town in the US and he had a week of revival there. The entire city was born again. All the borders closed, liquor shops closed, all movie theaters were closed, and they all got saved. Everybody in that town was in the stadium everyday for seven days and all the policemen had no job to do. So after the crusade, reverend Graham went back to his hometown and knelt down to give thanks to God. He said, “Lord, thank you for giving me a huge harvest today in those meetings.” As he was praying, the Lord spoke to him, He said, “My son, all the harvest I’m not putting it to your account, I’m putting it on the account of a poor widow in that town.” Billy Graham was very shocked, “What do you mean Lord?” The Lord told him, “For three years, this widow was praying to me, ‘Lord please send Billy Graham to our town.’ For three years, day and night she prayed without sleeping. She interceded for her town for three years. The Lord told him, “It was her intercessions that saved this town not you. You just came in with a sickle to reap the harvest but she’s responsible for everything.” Nobody knew about this old woman, the whole town only saw Billy Graham publicly but the eyes of the Lord saw her. This is the great weapon that you have inside you. So don’t use your gift for the devil, use it for God and before too long, your husband will be sitting in these meetings.
Seek after, be single minded in your devotion. Don’t give up. ‘One thing have I desired.’ If you sincerely seek the face of God, if you sincerely seek the glory of God, if you sincerely seek the house of God, don’t fall short. Don’t give up until you get it. You must have stubborn faith. Don’t be stubborn in your attitude. See stubbornness that is positive and negative. Use your stubbornness to move God. That is good stubborn. Don’t be stubborn with each other. That is bad stubborn. Many negative qualities inside us can be transformed into good qualities. Be stubborn with sin. Why do we love sin and we are stubborn with holiness? Be stubborn with sin. Why are you disobeying God when you could disobey the devil?! God asked you to do small thing and you’d give Him 1001 excuses. When the devil asked you to do a big thing you’d immediately obey. Why? Obey God, disobey the devil.
One thing have I desired, that I will seek after. I sought Him, who’s my so “beloved”. Do you really love the Lord Jesus Christ with all your heart or you think you love or you pretend to love Him? This is a question you sincerely need to ask yourself and look into your heart. If you really love Him then you must seek after Him whom you longs for. Christianity is no longer a religion, it is a relationship.
Now, where is this dove? Jeremiah 48:20
She is found hiding in the clefts of the rock. That is where they make their nests so that it will be kept for security and safety, hidden from danger and since clefts are secret places in the rocks where normally people can’t easily find. Only doves know them. That is their security. Nothing can shake them. Nothing can move them, all safety is guaranteed.
Are you hiding in your secret place? Not the secret place of God but in your own secret place? Does God have access from the clefts in your life? Are you hiding your hearts, your secrets from God? Is there a place in your life where even God has no right to touch? Many people make a cleft in their heart, in their lives and they hide there and they will not even allowed God to touch those areas. Do you have that place in your life? If you are a bride, you can’t remain there anymore. That maybe is your safety; you like to hide there. Whatever may be your backgrounds-good, bad, ugly. Whether you are abused as a child, whether you’re molested as a child, whether you’re deeply hurt by Christian leaders, we tend to hide, build a wall around ourselves and hide there. And you don’t want to trust anybody else in this world and you don’t want to allow anybody to come near you and you create a secret place where you hide underneath where you even have set boundaries for God. A bride can’t be like that. If there is such a place like that in your life, you’ll never be healed, you’ll never be delivered. That vacuums if not treated will be destructive. It will destroy you, and all those who are around you and all those who come and contact with you. Forget the past, unless you are willing to let go the past, God can’t do a new thing in your life. I tell you today, 101 prophets can come and prophesy to you ‘God will do new thing in your life’, but I’ll tell you today from the word of the eternal God, unless and until you let go of the old, no good thing can God do in your life.
Isaiah 43:19 “See I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland.”
Forget the formal things. Forget the old glory. If your church splits and you established a new church, don’t keep on saying ‘Oh in the past, it was like this…like that…’
Forget the past! Behold God does a new thing.
Does not the Scripture say, the glory of the latter house is greater than the former house? So why are you longing for the former house when the latter house is better? If God wants to make the latter half of your life better, then why are you contented to stay in the former half? Why? Why are you holding on to your past? Let it go. If you won’t, the healing love of Jesus Christ can’t flow. Many times, people are not healed because they are hiding secrets in their hearts.
The first night when I came to preach here, that evening as I was waiting on the Lord. The Lord said, “Today, I am going to heal many people, but there are many women who had wound problem, they have sin of unforgiveness in their hearts. Unless they let it go, they can’t be healed.” See, secrets that you hide in your heart, the secret places in your heart that you created in your heart and that you hide there, the healing anointing can’t flow. I have many records in my office how many sick people were not healed because of sin. And then they are healed when the sin is forgiven especially in the areas of bitterness. This was what the Lord Jesus Christ told me one day, “When a woman has sicknesses in the area of her womb, breasts, asthma, the root causes of this are bitterness, anger, unforgiveness.” This was what the Lord Jesus told me, “Whenever people come to you for such sickness, first ask them these three questions, “Unless and until they let go of this three, they can’t be healed.” And ever since Jesus had told me this, I put this to the test. Out of 10 women who come to me for prayer concerning sickness in this area of their body, 9 of them always said one of the three problems. Unforgiveness, anger, bitterness–why keep them when they are destructive? Why do you keep on to them as if they are your teddy bear to hug? They are not good teddy bears. It is strangling your life. They are not as cuddly bears that can cuddle. These kinds of bear are real bear that are tearing your life, your health apart to pieces. So why do you want to hold on to that anger? Whether you are justified to feel angry, bitter or not, that is not the issue, perhaps you are justified, that is not the issue, the issue is it is destroying you so why keep something inside you when it is designed to destroy you? Take it out and throw it outside. Today you’ll be absolutely healed. Whatever anger you have, whatever bitterness or unforgiveness, just let it go.
Is there a place in your life where it’s off limits to God?
If you want to be the bride, you can not dwell in those clefts of the rocks. When you want to be the bride to take the first step forward, yourself must die.
Matthew 16:24 “Then Jesus said to His disciples, ‘If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.”
The bridegroom is calling the bride to come.
Songs of Solomon 2:10 “My beloved spoke to me, ‘rise up my love, my fair one and come away.’ (Arise, my darling, my beautiful one, and come with me.”
Why is He calling her like that? Because she’s hiding down below in the clefts of the secret places and the bridegroom is standing at the top of the cleft and looking down and said, ‘Oh my dove, rise up, come up, don’t hide there, come up.’ The bridegroom is calling. Come away from the clefts up the stairs to meet your God.
What are stairs? They are ascensions, order of ascension.
If you want to meet God, you know another wrong prayer that we all prayed in our churches is “Lord, touch me.” Have you prayed that prayer? But the bridegroom’s prayer is this, He’ll say, “I have touch you enough, you touch me.” This is the exact words that came from the lips of the Lord Jesus, “I have touched you enough, you now touch me.” You see, He look at the bride and said, “Come up.” but the bride is saying, “You come down.” It doesn’t look like that. You must come up. The bride is saying, “Lord, come down, touch me, bless me, and do me good.” but the bridegroom is saying, “Come up, my dove, come away my fair ward.”
If you want to walk with God in the intimacy of the King’s big chamber, He has a place. You know, you can pray anywhere–in your car, kitchen, in your bed, anywhere you like but there is a secret place of the Most High God. If you want to have an intimate relationship with Him, you must come there not He come to you when you are driving your car. That is different. Don’t mix the food together. That is different. There is a place by God.
Look at Exodus 19:20; 24:12 “The Lord descended to the top of Mount Sinai and called Moses to the top of the mountain. So Moses went up. The Lord said to Moses, ‘Come up to me on the mountain and stay here, and I will give you the tablets of stone…”
In this two Scriptures, God wanted to reveal Himself a magnification of His glory to Moses and He told Moses, “Come up the mountain and I will meet with you.” Why didn’t God come down to meet Moses? He doesn’t walk that way. Sorry for the bad news. He doesn’t walk like that. You come up. Why are many people, sincere as they are in their desire to see God? How many of you like to see the Lord? How many of you like to hear the voice of Jesus Christ speaking to you? Sincere as you are, why are you not seeing or hearing Him? It’s because, you have not climbed up, you are sitting down in your comfort and say, “Come down.” It doesn’t work like that. So He’s waiting patiently for you to come to your senses and know that He is the Holy One who inhabits eternity. He is not your slave. Many times when Christians pray I always wonder who is God because when they pray they sound that they are God and God is their slave. They said, “God go and do this, God go and do that.” Who is God? your slave? Do you know who God is? How can we talk to Him like that? Such irreverence…
Do you know that is the reason why I told you earlier, the charismatic church doesn’t have a clue about worshipping God in the beauty of holiness. To her, everything is just easy. You can chew gums and pray, you can chew gums and worship. These are all insults to the holiness of God. Only cows chew, you know. If you don’t believe me, come to India. They are called to chew. That is their calling. If you chew, who are you then? Praise the Lord. Do you know why the eastern churches have an intimate walk with God? Because we reverence God. The western church doesn’t know how to reverence God. She just plays with God. She thinks God is just a next-door neighbor friend like how you say, “Dog, I love you.” that same word she use to Jesus, “Lord I love you.” It doesn’t work but I will tell you one truth, that doesn’t diminish His love for you. He blesses you as far as His grace goes. But the moment you rise up to meet Him in His place, you see His glory. You walk in His glory. You talk in His glory. That is the place. <Exodus 33> Now Moses wanted to see the glory of God and this is what God told Him.
Remember I told you there are some loopholes in the laws of God.
There you will see scripturally, a loophole in Exodus 33:20, “You cannot see my face, for no one may see me and live.” How do you think Moses must have felt when God said this? His face must have suddenly turned like a small little boy looking with great longing into his Father’s face. Do you have children like that? When your children have that kind of a face, can you say no to them? I have 6 nephews. When any one of them come to me with such a face, whatever anger I may have in my heart for them, will just melt like wax. So Moses had such a face and the Lord looked down. His heart was moved with wax. He said, “What can I do?” He created a loophole. Look at verse 21. “There is a place by me and I will put thee in a cleft of the rock…” This scripture is cross- linked to the Songs of Solomon 2:14 “there is a place by God…”
If you want to know God intimately as a bride would know her bridegroom, you must climb up the secret stairs to meet the Lord God where He is.
How to climb up?
1. Praise and worship. When you begin to praise and worship God, all the impurities in your heart are washed away, cleansed. Purification takes place.
2. Meditate the Word of God. When you meditate the Word of God, Ephesians 5:26 says, “God’s word is like water.” John 17:17 says, “His Word sanctifies.” John 15:3 says, “By my Word you were clean.” So when you meditate the Word of God, your mind is cleansed. Not only that, every one of us have one common problem when we pray–our minds wanders around. Have you? Is that your experience? Your mind wanders around the whole world. Suddenly you remember everything under the sun. All the hidden things all come to the surface of your mind and you suddenly remember everything and you forget the Bible.
Now, when you praise, the mind begins to keep quiet. When you meditate the Word, the mind is furthered bind and brought into oneness with God, you don’t just enter into prayer. That is imperfection. See Esther did not immediately come and stand before the king. She fasted for three days; she put on the royal robe then came and stood before the king.
Two stages–praise and worship and meditate the Word of God.
By the time you sincerely praise and worship and meditated the Word, I promise you, your mind will have come in stillness and oneness before the Holy Spirit. Then pray. In that state, when you pray, your heart will never waiver, your mind will never wander. You’ll be in oneness of heart and mind together with the Holy Spirit. This is the real meaning of the Scripture, “Where there are two or three gathered in My name, I’ll be there in their midst.” Not just physically 2 and 3. Two is your spirit and your soul and the third is the Holy Spirit, then you will become one. And the Lord Jesus Christ is there. And your eyes will behold Him and your heart will see Him. Your ears can hear Him.
3. Waiting on God. Most Christians practice the other 2 but this last stage, 99.9% of Christians don’t practice this at all or are ignorant of this. This is the foundation of your walk with God. If you don’t have this foundation, you can’t walk with God. Let me give you one example. In Exodus 24: 12-15, God told Moses to come up to the mountain to talk to Him. When Moses went up the mountain, he waited there for 6 days. Before God’s glory came down, he patiently waited for 6 days. Then on the 7th day, the cloud of glory came down and God spoke to him face to face for 40 days and 40 nights. Suppose you were there in that mount. First day, you waited on God and He didn’t come down. You would have received a ton of e-mails calling you back to office. You would immediately come down the mountain. Thank God Moses did not have a cellular phone. Even if he had, he would have given it to Joshua and say, “You take care about all the calls while I wait on God.” Look at this man; he patiently waited for 6 days hoping the next day God would come. He didn’t even know when God will come.
Do you know what’s the key for a great being great? Why is Enoch in our eyes great? Why is Moses great? Why is Abraham great? Why is Elijah great? What makes them great? Is it their great spirituality? I tell you the secret of that. They are great because they simply obeyed. Simple right? They simply obeyed without any questions. No questions asked. God told Moses, “Come and wait.” Period. There was no other tone in Moses’ mind, he only had told to do one think and he just waited for six days. If God didn’t show up and if He’d only showed up in the 40th day, Moses would still be waiting because the Lord told him to wait. The Lord did not say, “Wait for some time and see if I didn’t come, go back home.” Did He say that? He didn’t say that. This is our problem. We cannot obey. We always want to question God.
True Spirituality’s foundation is obedience. If you want to walk with God, you must obey. “Forsake all and follow Me”, says the Lord. If you forsake all, you must believe with silent simplicity that He will take care of you. He will, if you obey.
Now look at Jesus when He was on this earth, He did that. Matthew 14:23, Luke 6:12; 9:28; John 6:15, He climbed up the mountain, He climbed up the secret place, the secret stairs to talk with God.
Finally, while you’re up there, verse 14 says, “Let me see your face, let me see your voice, make yourself known to God.”
1 Corinthians 13:12 tells us that Jesus Christ your bridegroom waits for you to reveal yourself to Him.
Solomon 5:2 and Revelation 3:20 tells us that He knocks at the door, waits for you to open.
He’s waiting for you to reveal your heart to Him. Whatever is in your heart, open your heart and talk to God. Don’t follow King James in English in prayer; don’t follow grammatically correct sentences before God in prayer, talk like a little child to God. Whatever is in your heart, freely talk to Him.
1 Corinthians 8:3 “Love opens up your heart to God.”
The bridegroom desires to see your face, to hear your voice, to see your heart, open, unveil yourself, make yourself naked before His all seeing eyes and tell Him what is in your heart. Everything, hide no secrets. Between a husband and wife, there must be no secrets.
