Lukewarm Christians

May 28, 2014 —I woke up from a dream. It’s not a good one. We’re on a long journey—me, my dad, sister, relatives, classmates, friends and workmates. We dropped and went into different places, cities and provinces by bus. These events tapped or had touched my personal life which includes my sickness, healing, personal problems, career, personality, spiritual growth.

I’m going to start with…1.My sickness – It was represented by a former male high school classmate who tried to harm me. I was afraid of him when I knew he was demonically possessed. I screamed for help and so I was helped. I was being treated and was kept inside the house for so long to heal my emotional distress until all of them went away and left me. I decided to come out from my comfort zone though I was still in pain. Along the stairs, I saw the person who caused my sickness and pain. He also was being treated. The bad thing about it was I developed an arrogant character upon seeing his kind of healing which is more likely as punishment. He was publicly humiliated, was compelled to pray with his hands open sideways with candles around him and dead leaves. I told myself, “So I was right that he was really demonically possessed. There’s no reason for me to be guilty since I did not gave a false testimony against him.”

Thoughts to ponder: Beware of false witnesses.

Proverbs 12: 17, 19, 22 say, “A truthful witness gives honest testimony, but a false witness tells lies. Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue lasts only a moment. The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in men who are truthful.”

Proverbs 13: 3, 10; 16:18 says, “He who guards his lips guards his life, but he who speaks rashly will come to ruin.Pride only breeds quarrels, but wisdom is found in those who take advice.Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.”

Attitudes to work with: lying, deceitfulness, arrogance and pride

2. Then I went down to play with my cousins. While playing, I was trying to trick and deceive them by playing dishonestly. I told my aunt, “It’s okay for him cause were cousins.” I laughed. I thought, “It’s just a game anyway.” But my cousin did not respond; he kept silent.

Thoughts to ponder: Proverbs 16: 8, 9, 17 say, “In his heart a man plans his course but the Lord determines his steps . . . the highway of the upright avoid evil; he who guards his way guards his life.”

Attitudes to work with: dishonesty, unscrupulous, unjust

3. I was bored to wait for them because I was finished with mine so Ilay on the ground. I saw my dad and my deceased uncle. My uncle’s face was so pleasant. I call their attention by playing like a beggar. My dad approached me and gave me few peso coins.

Thoughts to ponder: Beware of love of money

Ecclesiastes 5:10 says, “Whoever loves money never has money enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with his income…”

4. We were told to go to other place so we must prepare. I was undecided to either fix myself or not because I was too lazy. We headed toward the airport. There I saw my former workmates. I start bragging to my seatmate telling, “Look at their outfit, they’re cool right? I used to wear that and do what they’re doing.”

Thoughts to ponder: If you are taking much importance with your job, work, career or whatever you call ‘em, I mean like if you prioritize them above God then you won’t be ready for the coming of Jesus. Many people, even Christians, nowadays are so busy with work and other stuff– can’t have the time to worship the Lord, prayand read or listen to His word; make excuses. We must not forget why and whom we are created to—that is to bring glory to the Lord Jesus Christ, to love Him and to do His will in our lives.

We must also focus on the present to move on towards the future.

Philippians 3: 13-14 say, “. . . forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”

Attitudes to work with: pride, boastfulness, slumber, unable to forget the past and move.

5. Along with us is my former high school crush who also had a crush on me but he did not talk to me.

Thoughts to ponder: We must not regret on our past mistakes. Instead, we must focus on the present to move on towards the future. If you are so much affected or too focused with your partner or relationships (friends, family, relatives, boyfriend/girlfriend…), you won’t be ready for the coming of Jesus.

Romans 14: 10- 13, 19 say, “You then, why do you judge your brother? Or why do you look down on your brother? For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat. It is written: ‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord, ‘every knee will bow before me; every tongue will confess to God.’So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God. Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in your brother’s way. Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification.”

Psalms 37: 1- 11, 39,40 says, “Do not fret because of evil men or be envious of those who do wrong; for like the grass they will soon wither, like green plants they will soon die away. Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him and He will do this; He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.

Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes. Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret—it only leads to evil. For evil men will be cut off, but those who hope in the Lord will inherit the Land. A little while, and the wicked will be no more; though you look for them, they will not be found. But the meek will inherit the land and enjoy great peace.

The salvation of the righteous comes from the Lord; he is their stronghold in time of trouble. The Lord helps them and delivers them; he delivers them from the wicked and saves them, because they take refuge in him.”

6. The bus we rode on passed again in a familiar place until we arrive in the bus terminal where a woman of sixties, who was escorting us and whom I thought was my relative went out from the bus to go to her canteen. My two former male classmates (the other one who had caused me pain and sickness) went with her. The two had to stay there while the rest of us must continue on our journey. It went long. I was bored waiting in the bus so I went to the canteen to check on them. There I found my two former classmates sitting on the chair. They seemed don’t know what to do. When I saw the situation, I had the urge to help though I was not asked. My relative knew what’s lacking and need to be done. She’s about to get mad at my classmates’ lack of initiative so I hurriedly ran towards the kitchen when I saw someutensils had lain on the table unsanitied. I took a pot and put the kitchen utensils into it. I then went back and carry with me a quarter gallon of lukewarm water.

Later I realized that those stuffs need boiling water to be sanitized but because I was conscious of the time, I simply ignored and was contented with the lukewarm water.

Time passed. I thought my relative will stay for another hour so I fix myself—went to the toilet, put powder on my face and even took a nap. I did not notice that my relative is preparing to go back to the bus when I saw her carrying a bag of rice for our next ride. I was told by my classmate that she’s about to go back but I was so slow in fixing myself and was busy with other stuff. I was about to run after her but I rememberedI left my things so I went back inside. When I get on my feet, I’m too far to be heard. I don’t want to be left out but I also don’t want to go unprepared, not even leaving my other stuff when I was stumbled by my slipper. I could have run barefoot but I did not. My mind was willing but my body is weak.

Thoughts to ponder: Matthew 26: 41 says, “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak.”

2 Corinthians 12: 9 says, “But He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weaknesses.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”

7. Finally I went out and tried to call her to wait for me but I was made mute. I panicked as I was waving my hands hoping the bus driver or the passengers could see me so it would stop because I could see it pulling its wheels out from the terminal. But on my dismayed, I was left out.

Thoughts to ponder: Due to my eagerness to help others, I was not able to help myself nor by others. Due to my undecided, unwilling, unprepared spirit and too much love of my stuff (career, properties), I was left out.

Proverbs 14: 10, 12 say, “Each man knows its own bitterness, and no one else can share its joy. There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.”

Matthew 7: 1- 5 say, “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judged others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your own eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.”

This calls for warning to our spirituality…

The lukewarm water represents lukewarm Christians. Inorder to be much effective, we must be on fire, boiled in our Christian faith. We must not settle with lukewarm water that could not make our utensils clean and pure.

If we want to continue on our journey, we must leave behind our sickness, past hurts…Let us not make excuses of our sickness (emotional, physical…) for our inability to take action or make a move or to be used for God’s work. If we dwell on our problems, distresses, weaknesses, pains and sufferings, we’ll never move on to the next level or route of our journey.

If we’re given much time and chance, let’s grab it. Let’s not waste our time and slumber since the time is really running so fast.

READ: Romans 8:1- 16 says, “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in sinful man, inorder that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit.

Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires, but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace; the sinful man is hostile to God. It does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God.

You however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ. But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet your spirit is alive because of righteousness. And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you.

Therefore brothers, we have an obligation—but it is not to the sinful nature, to live according to it. For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live, because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.”

Romans 13: 8-14 say, “Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellowman has fulfilled the law. The commandments, ‘Do not commit adultery,’ ‘Do not murder,’ ‘Do not steal,’ ‘Do not covet,’ and whatever other commandment there may be, are summed up in this one rule: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ Love does no harm to its neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law. And do this, understanding the present time. The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than we first believed. The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in orgies, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature.”

Romans 15: 1-3, 5, 7, 13 say, “We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not please ourselves. Each of us should please his neighbor for his good, to build him up. For even Christ did not please himself but, as it is written: ‘The insults of those who insult you have fallen on me.’ May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus.Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God. May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
