Spiritual famine and devotion

Today at 2 in the morning, I woke up from a dream. It was a plague or famine in the spirit. Then I saw the words “Psalms 37” clearly flashing as in a widescreen. Next, I was amazingly reciting the verses though I hadn’t any copy. It seemed the Holy Spirit was prompting my lips to recite Psalms 37:1-4. I could have had finished the whole chapter but I was awakened. And then I prayed. Sooner I realized that I was praying and was fully back to sanity, I pondered. I asked the Lord, “What is it?” So I went to my room and grabbed my Bible to check the Scripture to open Psalms 37. I read it aloud three times and then observed the principle, law, promise, if there’s any. I tried to get back to sleep but I couldn’t; not until 4 the morning and dreamt again. This time was different. There’s a voice telling me that, “In your house, one is sharing or speaking about Christ, then another, and another one which is good that you are sharing Christ with one another as believers. But, it would be better if you would go out.”

When we’re having our discipleship in the church after the first session of our Sunday service, I was enlightened and led by that dream I have had. The dream coincided with our topic.

Psalms 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.”

The candle and the lamp if not lit will not glow by its own. It must have the oil.

Our heart is the storehouse of the power of the life of Jesus.

Our mind is the storehouse of the power of the light of Jesus.

Light means understanding and the Holy Spirit gives life to the light for us to understand the word of God. There are many scholars, theologians and philosophers of the world evangelizing not the logus or living word of God but only with head knowledge. If we have the seed of Christ perfect love, we have overcome the world. READ: John 3:1-7 saying, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made. In Him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it. There came a man who was sent from God; his name was John. He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe.

Also,2 Corinthians 3:6 says, “He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant—not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.”

Amos 8:11 says, “The days are coming,” declares the Sovereign Lord, “when I will send a famine through the land—not a famine of food or a thirst of water, but a famine of hearing the words of the Lord.”

The infallible truths when planted will reap goodness.

Devotion is the oil to spread or share the gospel / word of God through cell group (discipleship).

Devotion could be done by applying the principle of SOAP (Scripture, Observation, Application and Prayer)

For example:

a. SCRIPTURE- contains the text e.g. 2 Peter 1:1-4 with the title “Making One’s Calling and Election Sure” and the key verse.

2 Peter 1:1-4 says, “Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those through the righteousness of our God and Saviour Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours:

2 Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus Christ our Lord.

3 His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness.

4 Through these He has given us His very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.”

Here the key verse is 3 (2 Peter 1:3)

b. OBSERVATION is done by observing the key verse if there’s principle, law, promise, warning…

Here the observation is “If we have the full knowledge of Him (relationship knowledge), we’ll receive His divine power, godliness, glory, precious promises (His mysteries) and be protected from the corruption of the world by evil desires.”

Also, in your OBSERVATION from verse 4, you’ll discuss the difference between godliness, humanist and worldliness

godliness means being a spiritual man because God is spirit and so we must worship Him in spirit and in truth; worldliness means being  materialist; and humanist means being soulist.

Here your application from the text is “Are you sure you’re worthy as one of God’s chosen people? Are you worthy of His calling? (election sure)

d. PRAYER – in your prayer you can also include other text or verses like based from 2 Peter 1:1-4, you can use Revelation 1:18 and Matthew 10:28, 29-32to be followed by your personal prayer based on the SCRIPTURE, OBSERVATION and APPLICATION principles of Devotion.

Revelation 1:18 says, “I am the Living One; I was dead, and behold I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.”

Matthew 10:28, 29-32 “Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell. Are not two sparrows sold for penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge Him before my Father in heaven.”
